One thing is getting your iron, but knowning how to use it properly. Most people know how to use a regular iron, but the steaming version is a little different. People don't know how to approach it properly or do things effectively, so they get the best type of results.

Cleaning Your Iron

Taking care of your iron is very important. The most obvious reason is that you have to keep it from getting dirt or stains on it. If you don't than it'll just end up on your clothing. You also need to clean it to help extend the life of it and the quality of its performance. Like all things, they get less effective as they get older. Help extend the life of your iron by cleaning it properly.

Before you start cleaning make sure you unplug the iron. You want to open it up and get all the water out of it. Next you add warm water to it and rinse it out until you have clear water coming out of it. Lastly you want to let it dry completely. This is key; it has to dry completely.

Usage Tips

Obviously you need to know how to properly use the iron, so that you can get more out of it. There is a method for doing this properly, so I might as well teach you.

  • Iron in your bedroom because you have a bed to sort all your laundry and easily fold it.

  • Start with the fabrics that don't need as much heat. Work your way up to the items that need more heat. Since an iron gets hotter as time goes on, you do it this way.

  • Move the part of the fabric you iron away from you. It's just a way of preventing yourself from causing more wrinkles from being created.

  • Iron your cuffs, collars and hems on the wrong side first. It just prevents them from pukering.
